Ocean

Set sail towards an exciting future. Join other adventurers as they adjust their sails, check the tides and answer the call of the sea in the South Broward High School Marine Magnet Program.

Dive into the exciting world of ocean studies and nautical industries- afloat and ashore- in the Marine Science Program. Students participate in an exploratory cirriculum focusing on South Florida's waterways, nautical systems, maritime businesses and industries, and ocean sciences. This research-oriented program incorporates field trips, mentorships, stimulating hands - on activities, and sophisticated laboratory experiments. The program emphasizes career opportunities in ecological, environmental and marine areas. Students are prepared to enter post secondary education and/or the work force in the fields of maritime and science industries.

The future of Florida's ecological, economic and commercial systems of diversity depends on enthusiastic young people who excel in the fild of maritime systems. The exploratory cirriculum focuses on:

Mission Statement:
The intent of the program is to provide senior high school students with the unique opportunities to gain knowledge, develop skills, and ultimately enter careers in the field of marine science. Participants gain a definitive respect for the marine environment. In addition, the program serves to foster initiative, integrity, honor, and leadership in a diverse multicultural society.

Qualifications
To enroll in the magnet program, all students must:

  • Score a level 3 or higher on FCAT reading and math 
  • Have earned at least a 2.0 GPA in middle school
  • Maintain a 2.5 GPA while enrolled in the program
